Adventure Sports Week 2010 Gears Up!

After a very successful debut last year, Adventure Sports Week is ready to return in 2010, bigger and better, and offering even more challenges for endurance athletes to conquer.

This year's ASW is set to take place from June 4-13, and will once again be held in Farragut State Park, outside of beautiful Coeur d Alene, Idaho. Also like last year, the adventure racing double header of the Crux and the Crucible will be the center point of a week filled with all kinds of races, including triathlons, trail runs, mountain biking, and more.

But there will be plenty of new activities in 2010 as well, such as the Great North Woods Cyclocross, which promises a new challenge for cyclists. In addition to the already well established XTERRA Triathlon, ASW 2010 will play host to the new Bayview International & Sprint Triathlons, which will be run at Olympic and Sprint distances over a course that is described as being amongst the most scenic anywhere.

These items are just the tip of the ice berg for Adventure Sports Week. If you run, ride, or paddle, you're sure to to find something to your liking, and if you do all three, then you're really going to love it. Adventure Sports Week Returns For 2010!

Following a highly successful debut in the adventure racing community in 2009, Adventure Sports Week returns to Farragut State Park, near Coeur d'Alene, Idaho in June of this year, with even more events to challenge runners, mountain bikers, and adventure racers of all experience levels.

At the center of last year's event was the Crux and the Crucible, a multi-disciplined race that required teams of 3 to run, paddle, and mountain bike their way across some of the most demanding terrain that the Western United States has to offer. This year, the event will be even bigger and better however, as it is now a three day, three stage affair, that kicks off with the "Midnight Ramble" at 6 PM on Friday, June 11th. That stage will last into the night, and the following morning, when Stage 2, "The Crux" will begin at 8 AM, with "The Crucible" scheduled to get underway on Sunday morning. Teams can be al-male, female, or coed, with 1-4 racers, and can elect to race one, two, or all three of the stages. Team Nike, led by Mike Kloser, will be back to defend their title this year.

If an adventure race like the Crux and the Crucible isn't your style, then fear not, as there will be plenty of other activities to take part in. There will also be seven different trail runs, a mountain bike race, a paddle, a distance swim, and a XTERRA series point race as well. Needless to say, there should be something for everyone.

Adventure Week: Two More Endurance Legends Added

The roster of endurance athletes coming to Adventure Sports Week 2009 continues to grow with the addition of Rebecca Rusch and Michael Emde to the already impressive list of names that will be on hand at Farragut State Park near Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho this June.

Rusch, who has earned the nickname "the Queen of Pain", has an extensive and impressive resume in the world of outdoor adventure sports. She has raced in, and won, adventure races all over the world, and has become one of the best endurance mountain bike athletes as well. She will be taking part in the Mad Dash 8-hour mountain bike ride, as well as the Crux and the Crucible Adventure Race, and one of several orienteering events too.

Emde is the winner of the Furnace 508, and endurance cycling event that runs for 500+ miles through Death Valley every year. He has also competed on an international level in a number of other cycling events as well, and will be riding in the Mad Dash race as well.

These two talented athletes will join the likes of Mike Kloser, Ian Adamson, Robyn Benincasa, and Dean Karnazes in Idaho this summer. Adventure Sports Week will run from June 5 through the 14 and will offer outdoor athletes "10 days, 24 races, 1 great party". Looks like it'll be an amazing week!

Adventure Sports Week 2009 Continues To Take Shape

Adventure Sports Week 2009, the multi-race, multi-day athletic event scheduled for to get underway this June in Idaho continues to blossom into one of the premiere outdoor sports event of the year. With a slew of events already lined up, and some of the biggest names in adventure racing scheduled to be on hand, the surrounding communities are now starting to ramp up for ASW as well.

All of the outdoor action is set to go down from June 5-14 at Farragut State Park near beautiful Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. But the residents of nearby Bayview are also getting into the action, as the town of 300, located on the banks of Lake Pend Oreille, not far from where the races will get under way, are preparing for endurance athletes such as Robyn Benincasa, Mike Kloser, and Dean Karnazes to descend upon their sleepy little town.

The ASW motto is "10 Days, 24 Races, 1 Big Party", and it's certainly appears to be living up to that slogan. Online registration is now open, allowing tams and individuals to sign up for a host of races, including the Crux & the Crucible adventure race, an Ironman qualifying triathlon, orienteering courses, mountain bike races, and much more.

Personally, I'm really looking forward to this event. I love the variety of races that are being offered, and there are some huge names in the world of endurance sports putting in an appearance, including Ian Adamson, who has been out of competition for a couple of years now. The team putting this together are top notch and are creating a new event which looks to be amazing, in a setting that should be perfect as well.

Adventure Week: New Name, New Website, and Another Legend Joins the Fun!

Adventure Week, the major outdoor sports event scheduled to take place in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho this June, has changed its name to Adventure Sports Week and launched a new website at AdventureSportsWeek.com that has even more information about all the amazing events that will be taking place from June 5th - 14th at Farragut State Park.

In addition to launching the new website, and updating the name, the organizers of Adventure Sport Week have also announced that adventure racing legend Mike Kloser and Team Nike have committed to competing at the event. Kloser, whose resume remains unmatched by anyone else in the sport, will join other AR legends such as Robyn Benincasa, Ian Adamson, and Rebecca Rusch who will be on hand for the festivities.

The event bills itself as "10 days, 24 races, 1 great party!" and by all accounts it seems like it's going to live up to that moniker. Over the course of the week there are going to be some really great races, including the XTerra Northwest Cup, which will serve as a qualifier for the XTerra World Championships, and the Crux and Crucible adventure races that are set to challenge even seasoned endurance athletes.

We're told that there are still some big announcements to come as we get closer to the event, but at this point, it's hard to imagine how Adventure Sports Week could get much bigger. There are tons of activities scheduled, some major athletes on hand, and it's all set in one of the most beautiful settings in the country. This great event just seems to keep getting better and better!

"Race With Robyn" at Adventure Week 2009

Another week, another cool announcement for Adventure Week 2009, the big event scheduled for next June in Idaho that is quickly shaping up to be one of the biggest stories in adventure racing and endurance sports for next year.

The big announcement for this week is that adventure racing goddess Robyn Benincasa will be in attendance for the event. Robyn is one of the most experienced adventure racers in the world and the most successful female adventure racer ever. She currently races with Team Merrell Zanfel, who finished second at Primal Quest Montana this past June. Robyn joins fellow AR legend Ian Adamson in attending Adventure Week.

As if that wasn't cool enough, in early January a sweepstakes will be launched on the Adventure Week 2009 website that will give aspiring racers the opportunity to "Race with Robyn". One or two lucky winners will get the opportunity to compete in the Crux and the Crucible adventure races with Robyn as their teammate.

Getting underway on June 5th and running through the 14th, Adventure Week 2009 will host a series of adventure races, trail runs, mountain bike competitions, and a whole lot more. The event will take place at Farragut State Park, near beautiful Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. Amongst the numerous events will be the Xterra Farragut Off-road Triathlon, which will offer up 34 qualifying spots to competing in the Ironman in Maui.

On a personal note, I had the opportunity to meet Robyn in Montana last year and work with her on a few things since then. I can tell you that she is one of the nicest, most down to Earth people that you could ever hope to meet, and it would be a great opportunity for anyone to get the chance to race with her in Idaho next June.

Adventure Week Teases Big Things!

The first official press release for Adventure Week 2009 hit my inbox earlier today, and promises lots of great things next June when the event gets underway in scenic Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho.

Adventure Week 2009 is scheduled to run from June 5-14, 2009 in Farragut State Park, located just 30 miles North of the host city. Over the course of ten days, there will be 18 separate, and unique races, including the Xterra-Farragut, an off-road triathlon that will serve as an offical qualifier for the Xterra Nationals.

Other events will include The Deepwater Trail Runs, which include a marathon, a 50k run, and a 50 mile run, which will serve as a qualifier for the Wester States Ultra, the Gauntlet, a shorter off-road triathlon, and of course the Crux and the Crucible adventure races. There will be plenty of activities for us mere mortals as well however, with mountain biking, orienteering, disc golf, and kids events planned. All told, more than 1000 competitors are expected to participate.

As if all of that wasn't intriguing enough, the press release hints at big announcements yet to come, including some "VERY special guests" who will be attending and competing at Adventure Week. Hmm... wonder who they are talking about? A big announcement is promised in the near future, so for now we'll just have to all wait to see what's in store.

It is my distinct pleasure to announce a great new event that is shaping up to take place in near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho next June. The event is called Adventure Week 2009, and one look at it's very busy schedule, will tell you that it's going to live up to it's name.

Adventure Week is schedule to take place June 5th - 14th, 2009 at Farragut State Park, just 30 miles outside of Coeur d'Alene. The jam-packed schedule will include a number of amazing races, including triathlons, mountain biking, and adventure races. There will also be orienteering competitions, mountain treks, and even disc golf tournaments. And endurance athletes are not going to want to miss "The Crux and The Crucible", two demanding and rewarding adventure races that will push teams to the limits.
