Adventure Insured!

Share it Please

Here's an interesting article sent my way regarding insurance for adventure sports. It's from the L.A. Times travel section and offers up some excellent tips regarding what is and isn't covered.

Generally speaking, most of our insurance policies will not cover sports or other activities that are deemed "high-risk". The article notes that activities such as "motorcycling, sky diving, bungee jumping, whitewater rafting, parasailing and spelunking" are likely to not be covered. Climbing or mountaineering are not listed there, but it's safe to assume that they are also on the list of things that insurance companies would rather not see us doing. The article goes on to explain why travel insurance is a wise investment when ever you head out to some exotic place to partake in one of activities listed above, and even lists some companies that provide that insurance.

Travel insurance in general is always a good idea, as it can save you a lot of money should something unexpected happen on your trip. Travel insurance for adventure travelers and extreme sports should be considered mandatory in my opinion. It's not very expensive in the greater scheme of things, and having it could not only save you lots of money, but potentially could save your life. When I travel abroad, I always purchase travel insurance, and while I've never had to use it, it's nice to know that it's there should an issue arise.

Thank Kathy for sending this my way. It's an informative and useful article and the links to the insurance providers will come in handy in the future.
